Interview with Nicole Dijkstra

Nicole Dijkstra works as an administrative assistant at AFIC, part of Alpina Group. We spoke to her about her position and the first weeks within her new job.

Why did you choose Alpina Group?

Through LinkedIn I saw the vacancy and since I had been looking for an administrative position for some time, it immediately piqued my interest. I started looking into the organization and ended up at AFIC. After further searching and a positive impression of the company, I decided to apply.

I had previously been in contact with a recruiter, and after making contact again, an intake interview followed. Based on this intake, I was invited for a physical interview. The interviews went very well, which gave me a good feeling about the organization. Although I had other job interviews going on, Alpina Group felt right away. The combination of the pleasant interviews, the good click with the team and the attractive terms of employment were the deciding factors. This made me certain that I wanted to choose Alpina Group.

How did you like your first few weeks?

My first few weeks were great. I was warmly welcomed and there was even a bunch of flowers waiting for me on my first day of work. On my first day of work, which was on a Friday, I was immediately well taken care of by my colleagues, which made me feel comfortable right away.

I received good guidance and a clear induction program where I got to know the systems and working methods of the organization and colleagues. Despite the crowds, my colleagues took the time to explain everything to me, which I really liked.

In the weeks that followed, I got more and more settled in and was able to work more and more independently. In case of questions, I can always turn to my colleagues, which is a nice feeling. Since I have no background in the insurance industry, I spend extra time reading up and asking a lot of questions in order to understand the different topics well.

What appeals to you most about this position?

What I really like about this job is the combination of administrative work and customer contact. As an administrative assistant I work a lot on the laptop, but I also have direct contact with customers, for example by calling to answer questions or clarify matters.

In addition, no two days are the same, which makes the work varied and interesting. I learn a lot about the insurance industry and learn every day. I also have regular contact with insurers, which helps me gain a better understanding of the various aspects of the business.

What do you tell friends and family about your job at Alpina Group?

I tell my friends and family that I really enjoy working at Alpina Group. I explain what I do and how varied my job is. I also talk about the pleasant and friendly working atmosphere in the office. One of the things I really appreciate is that we have lunch together with the whole office. This creates a close and pleasant working environment.

I really feel at home here and see myself working here for a long time to come.
